Getting to Amsterdam is relatively cheap and accessible. You can get there from many airports in many European cities. You can also go to the city by bus, by train, and by ferry or boat.

By plane

Amsterdam is home to one of the world’s busiest airport, the Schiphol. Europe, the United States, and Asia are especially well served here. KLM is the Netherland’s national carrier. It is now merged with Air France.

Located about 15 km southwest of the city, Schipol serves low-cost carriers such as Easyjet and WizzAir. This provides travelers an economical way to hop to Amsterdam from other European cities.
As the Dutch capital is a vacation hotspot, the least expensive tickets may be gone during the high tourist season. So if you have a tight budget, a traditional carrier might be a good option. So it is advisable to check and compare airlines before you book, to get the best price.

By bus

Majority of international bus services have partnership with Eurolines (it has a terminal situated at Amstel Station). Usually, one bus daily is the maximum frequency on these bus routes. While there are other bus services, they often serve very specific markets, for example, Polish migrant workers. In addition, the country has few long-distance internal bus services – and none to the capital.

By train

Most trains in Amsterdam arrive and depart from Centraal Station, situated between the IJ waterfront and the old center. Schiphol also has its train station. Other train stations in the city include Amstel, Bijlmer-ArenA, Duivendrecht, Lelylaan, Muiderpoort, RAI, Sloterdijk, and Zuid-WTC. Direct international trains from Amsterdam run to Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan, Moscow, Paris, Prague, Vienna, and Zurich.

By ferry

You can also get to Amsterdam by ferry. The Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is located near the city center, but this maritime ferry port only serves cruise ships. The closest ferry port to the city center is IJmuiden with DFDS Seaways. This offers daily overnight ferry services from Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the United Kingdom.
